It can be very obvious when you, as a business, might consider a new phone system – moving office, for instance. However companies don’t move office very often, so does that mean you should stick with what you have? Not necessarily, no. I’d like to suggest some other times at which you should at least consider the question.
Changing circumstances
Businesses tend not to stand still, as you can be sure your competitors will overtake you otherwise. But what sort of changes might prompt a re-evaluation of your phone system?
- New offices/branches
Expanding into new territory, or dealing with overflow. Whatever the reason, your new office will need phones. Modern VoIP PBX’s can route calls over the internet, or even better over an intra-office VPN (Virtual Private Network) so that all calls between offices are free, and external calls can be handled centrally if so desired. - Refurbishment
If your cabling infrastructure is not up to the job of handling your network traffic, you may decide to upgrade it. At this point, it’s worth considering if a PBX that utilises the network infrastructure is more efficient that your current system.
Competition
You keep an eye on what your competitors are up to…of course you do. If you start seeing some changes in what they do that require the use of a more powerful phone system, such as a very flexible voice menu, then you have to consider if you need to react.
New Markets
Going international is a big step for a company. If you start making and receiving a lot of calls in a new market, costs can rise very quickly. In addition, having a local numberĀ can send a very powerful message to customers…that you are committed to them wherever they are. Can your current system do this?
