…but that’s doesn’t mean your business needs to suffer! With a VoIP-enabled telephone system, not only can you save costs on outbound calls, but it’s possible to set it up so that your staff can connect to it wherever they have access to the internet.

Flexible Working

This has been a goal for many businesses for some time. Not only is it perceived by staff as a perk, it can help the business save money by reducing the need for expensive office space. When, like now, the weather is inclement, it can also remove the need for staff to risk a hazardous journey to work. A journey that is likely to take much longer than normal.

So how will a telephone system achieve this? Well, most people have pretty high-speed broadband at home these days. Sending a high quality voice signal over the internet normally requires a small slice of the  bandwidth available to the typical home broadband customer. So with a free softphone application on their PC, a home worker can easily connect to the office phone system over the internet, and then make or even receive calls as usual. In essence, the internet is acting as an extension of the office data network.

The really good news is,  since the software is free, there is little or not investment needed to enable this valuable service!

Will it work with a Virtual PBX

Voicespan is on the cusp of launching a Virtual PBX, which is a telephone system that resides in the nice controlled environment of a data centre. A virtual PBX is even more suited to flexible working, as the user needs to connect to a telephone system that is effectively sitting in the middle of the internet, and so has virtually unlimited bandwidth. With an office-based PBX, the business needs to factor in the extra traffic going to and from remote workers when sizing their bandwidth. It’s not a big consideration unless office bandwidth is limited.

Is this for you?

If you think remote working might be of interest to your business then please get in touch and we can have a no-obligation chat. It’s been the earliest winter snow for 17 years…can your business afford another 3 months of disruption?
